October is African History Month, promoting a four-week celebration of national cultural events. Events in Ipswich have been put together by Del White of the NIA Project.
This year's programme ushers in exciting events, just giving you a flavour of the richly diverse history and culture of Africa and Africans of the Diaspora. Listed below are some events to grab your attention.
Womanyfestations: the beauty in manipulation (Monday 10th October to Friday 21st October 2005)
Tree of Life - a talk and screening of the British Museums commissioning of the making of the Tree of Life, will be hosted at St Joseph's College.
Nubian Films in association with the Ipswich Film Theatre bring an exciting season of short films during Africa History Month which includes: Exclusive screening of "Unbrought and Umbossed".
Malcolm X, a film marking the 50th anniversary of the assignation of Malcolm X, depicts the life and ideologies that shaped Malcolm Little to Malcolm X.

The Mary Seacole Tribute - the centennial year celebrates the internationally acclaimed intrepid Jamaican nurse/herbalist who made her way to the frontline of the Crimean War. A talk will be given by Professor Anionwu at Ipswich Hospital on Thursday 20th October 2005 between noon and 3pm.
TALKEASI - The celebration of the use of words (be it storytelling, rap or poetry) expresses the innate oratory gift of the African to recall. A free fall of young bright poets will be on call at the TALKEASI poetry night at the St Nicholas Centre on Wednesday 19th October.
