A possible £1 million lifeline has been offered to the Broomhill open air swimming pool by Ipswich Borough Council
A possible £1 million lifeline has been offered to the Broomhill open air swimming pool by Ipswich Borough Council.
Council chiefs have proposed committing the money to the Broomhill Pool Trust if members can develop a business plan for refurbishing the pool and bringing it back into use. The Council is also prepared to transfer ownership of the 1930s pool if this secures its long-term future.
The pool is currently closed but in recent years has attracted 16,000 swimmers a year, in comparison to the 550,000 who use Crown Pools and Fore Street annually. The proposals will be discussed by the Council’s Executive in the coming months.
