More than 25,000 people in Ipswich will be able to travel free

More than 25,000 people in Ipswich will be able to travel free on all buses across Suffolk - thanks to a new concessionary fares scheme being introduced by Ipswich Borough Council.

The Council considered the Government’s proposals for bringing in free off-peak travel for pensioners and people with disabilities from next year but have decided to take it a big step further. This means offering free peak-time and off-peak services throughout the county for every resident over 60 and many others with disabilities.

The proposals are being put forward by the ruling Conservative/Liberal Democrat administration. A report will now go to the Council’s Executive. If approved, the new concessionary fares scheme will be introduced from April 2006.
