Work has started on a £240,000 project that will see the conversion of three derelict shops into much needed family houses in Ipswich. Some of the shops in Clapgate Lane had been empty for a number of years, leading to vandalism and rubbish dumping. The works being undertaken by Ipswich Borough Council will bring the new homes up to the newly adopted “Ipswich Standard” which includes internal refurbishment works, modern kitchens and bathrooms, central heating, rewiring, new windows and improved environmental works including off street parking. The work also includes the modernisation of a flat above the end corner shop unit. The shop itself will remain. Work is set to be finished by the end of August 2005.
