The latest partnership between Ipswich Borough Council and Suffolk Coastal District Council will see their building control services working closer together.
An official agreement has just been signed that will mean the two teams will share the same manager and begin developing a much closer working relationship.
Building links between the two councils will make both teams stronger and more cost-effective. It is expected there will be savings of £3,000 in the coming year, rising to more than £25,000 in 2008/09.
All councils are legally required to provide some form of building control service, which assists architects, designers, agents, builders, home-owners, and businesses, to comply with the statutory building regulations. The primary objective of the building control teams is to make the process of complying with building regulations as easy and straightforward as possible. Both councils have a team of professionally qualified surveyors with administration support who can provide information and advice on building regulations and aim to provide a friendly, efficient and effective service to meet the needs of both their customers and the community they serve.
Under the new agreement, Ipswich’s Richard Suttle will now manage both teams, dividing his time equally between the two councils.
