A new, Olympic-sized swimming pool could be built in the town centre, it has been revealed.
The pool, part of a £14 million leisure complex, is one of the options for a Council-owned site in Princes Street/Portman Road.
Council chiefs have stressed that no decisions have yet been taken. But it was also made clear that if the pool was built Crown Pools would not close until the new pool opened.
The new pool option has come about because the Council faces a multi-million pound repair bill at Crown Pools and Crown car park.
The £9 million bill could be offset if the Council sold both sites and chose a developer to work on the new complex on the other side of the town centre.
A feasibility study is being commissioned by the Council.
