Long-serving Ipswich Borough Councillor Henry Davies is the new Mayor of the town. Councillor Davies, Conservative Councillor for Castle Hill, was elected at the Annual Meeting on Wednesday 17th May 2006. His theme for his mayoral year is “Ipswich Together” and his three charities are Ipswich Sea Cadets, Royal National Lifeboat Institution and the Ipswich Community Playbus. The Mayoress is Councillor Davies’ wife, Pauline.
His predecessor, Councillor Bill Wright, is the new Deputy Mayor.
Councillor John Cooper, who proposed Councillor Davies, paid tribute to his service on the Council and said: “We have worked together for a very long time and I have great pleasure in proposing him for the office of Mayor.”
Council Leader Liz Harsant said: “Harry Davies is a good Councillor and a good man. He will do a great job for Ipswich and will never let us down.”
Councillor Harsant was re-elected Leader at the meeting. Fellow Conservative John Carnall was re-elected Deputy Leader. Serving with them on the Council’s ruling Executive are:
