A bus service taking people to a new GPs’ surgery in Ipswich has been launched

A bus service taking people to a new GPs’ surgery in Ipswich has been launched.

Some residents in the Rose Hill area of town were worried that they would be left stranded after their surgery re-located from Hatfield Road to Ravenswood but Ipswich Borough Council and Day Lewis PLC pharmacy stepped in. The result? Service 20, from Ipswich Buses, which is running on a three-month trial.

The service is being funded jointly by the Borough Council and Day Lewis, whose pharmacy is next to the surgery on Ravenswood. Buses leave the Cricketers’ pub layby outside Tower Ramparts every half hour from 9.30am to 1pm, Monday to Friday. They go to Ravenswood via Foxhall Road, Tomline Road, Felixstowe Road, Lindbergh Road and Nacton Road. Councillor Paul West, the Council’s Transport portfolio-holder, said: “As soon as we realised that many residents would be affected by the move of the surgery, we worked with them to find a solution. I am grateful to the support given by Day Lewis and hope the service is well-used as this will help to safeguard its future.”

Timetables are available from the Ipswich Buses enquiry office at Tower Ramparts Bus Station as well as in the new doctor’s surgery and Day Lewis’ pharmacy.
