Twelve schools from the Ipswich area recently gathered at the Trinity Rooms for the 2006 Ransomes IP-City Awards.
With more than 150 students, parents, teachers and guests present for the Awards Ceremony, the exhibition was buzzing with activity.
These awards are a highly anticipated date in the education calendar, showcasing the cream of Ipswich's GCSE students' design and technology work.
Redesigned and relocated for 2006, the awards were originally set up in 1989 by Ipswich-based engineering company Ransomes and are now supported by the Mayor of Ipswich.
Students from Chantry High School, Copleston High School, Holywells High School, Ipswich High School for Girls, Ipswich School, Northgate High School, Parkside, Royal Hospital School, St Alban's High School, St Joseph's College, Stoke High School and Westbourne High School, excelled themselves with innovative and creative projects, providing the judges with a very challenging afternoon.
The four categories cover all aspects of Design and Technology and included a brand new award for 2006, the Ransomes IP-City Award for Achievement.
The winning projects included; a Trampoline Snowboard invented by Ben Bentley of Ipswich School, a pop-up book and point-of-sale stand designed and developed by Lois Cobbold of Westbourne High School, a Surf Chair created by Becky Collins from Parkside, a beautifully made dress by Megan Grant of Stoke High School and a DVD Storage Unit designed and constructed by Guy Howlett of Ipswich School.
