Ipswich has been closely linked with the northern French city of Arras for more than 10 years

Ipswich has been closely linked with the northern French city of Arras for more than 10 years.

During that time a great many people have participated in and enjoyed exchanges in many different areas including work experience, education, football, rugby, motorcycling, dance, choral music and a great many more.

Over the next two to three years the Council is adopting the theme of "young people and sport" for the community's links with Arras and would welcome any groups and individuals to contact the Council if you are interested in joining in the experience.

The Council is very willing to help in the setting up of links and some financial assistance might also be available.

There are thriving Ipswich-Arras Associations in both Ipswich and Arras who also support groups with organisational and linguistic help when required.

Councillor Judy Terry, the Council's Arts, Culture & Leisure portfolio-holder, said: "We take sport very seriously in Ipswich and initiatives such as Team Ipswich are cementing our position as a regional sports capital. We now want to develop links with our friends in Arras and this will be of real benefit to both communities."
