To celebrate national Compost Awareness Week Ipswich Borough Council is inviting residents to pick up some FREE soil-improver.
The compost is made from recycled garden waste collected from the kerbside green waste collection scheme. People are invited to take a spade and a container to Whitton Sports Centre on Saturday 12th May (10am - 3pm) to help themselves - subject to availability.
“Shovel it yourself” is part of a nationwide initiative to encourage home composting, which includes offering residents an opportunity to buy compost bins at vastly reduced prices. The compost, provided courtesy of Anglian Water, illustrates what happens to garden waste put out for collection and allows people to experience the benefits of compost on their gardens.
Any Ipswich resident who places an order from the 6th – 12th May will also be eligible for the prize of £100 of garden centre vouchers (donated by DHL, the logistics company that deliver the bins). Throughout 2007, residents are able to buy a 220 litre compost bin for £8, a 330 litre bin for £10 or a 250 litre KOMP compost bin for £20, all including delivery.
