Members of 4 Regiment Army Air Corps will march through Ipswich town centre next week with bayonets fixed and banners flying to celebrate their fiftieth anniversary.
The unit, based at Wattisham Airfield, will be exercising their right to the Freedom of the Borough, which was awarded by the Borough Council in 2002.
The march will begin on Wednesday afternoon from Black Horse Lane (3.45pm) and will proceed along Museum Street and Westgate Street to the Cornhill, where the Mayor, Inga Lockington, and the Commander in Chief, Col. Turner, will take the salute.
The marchers will then carry on along Tavern Street and into the Buttermarket. The Mayor will then host a private reception in the Corn Exchange.
The Mayor said: "We are very proud of our servicemen and women. This should be a very proud moment for all of us in Ipswich. We wish them well as they prepare for overseas deployment. I hope many members of the public will come into town and watch the spectacle."
Col. Turner will use the occasion to officially launch the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal in Ipswich.
