After 11 years of diligent training 31year old Andrew Brooks has been awarded his black belt

After 11 years of diligent training 31year old Andrew Brooks has been awarded his black belt. This tremendous achievement is made even more special in that Andrew has Downs Syndrome. Andrew's exhilaration was clear for everyone to see as his clenched fist was thrown to the air upon passing the grade. He can only be seen as a role model, through which all should aspire to his level of commitment and dedication.

This incredible story began when Andrew received a karate class as his 21st birthday present. Since then, karate has clearly been a life changing experience and is illustrated by his enthusiasm, excitement and personal drive towards the sport.

Andrew's father said: Andrew is a keen all-round sportsman who is particularly committed to his Karate'. He trains on a weekly basis with his coach Sean Hollobone and is extremely proud of his new belt."

His mother, Cathy, pointed out that Andrew has other interests as well. "He would dearly love to have a job in a kitchen to use the skills he learnt at Suffolk College, where he did his NVQ and City and Guilds in catering."
