Ipswich will be participating in National Architecture Week - the annual event celebrating the diversity of building design and styles in the UK. The town has a series of events taking place from 16th to 22nd June, including guided walks, building tours and exhibitions.
This year, the theme of National Architecture Week is the topical “How Green is our Space?” so events, as well as highlighting architecture styles representing 800 years of the town’s heritage, will also show how building styles and the construction materials used have changed to reflect environmental concerns. There is also a free draw with prizes which include framed house plans or the opportunity to take part in a house detectives research workshop.
One of the tours, “To California by Bus”, looks at the development of the residential area around Foxhall Road and Derby Road over the past 150 years and, in keeping with the environmental theme, uses public transport to get you to “California”. The tour includes tea in a local café.
Full details of events are available from Ipswich Tourist Information Centre, St Stephen’s Church, St Stephen’s Lane, tel: 01473 258070 or email tourist@ipswich.gov.uk
