No one will be able to smoke in Ipswich pubs, clubs, restaurants, work places and other closed establishments from 1st July

The "Big Cig" was in Ipswich on Wednesday 20th June, joining a team from Sackers Recycling and Town102 as they launched a special ashtray amnesty.

The idea was to ask pubs, restaurants and residents to hand in their glass ashtrays for recycling ahead of the 1st July smoke-free England deadline. The ashtray amnesty will run until the end of August and any funds raised will be given to cancer research charities.

Big Cig, a 6ft tall walking cigarette, and his Borough Council StreetCare colleagues also handed out Stubbis (portable ashtrays) and anti-litter leaflets.

No one will be able to smoke in Ipswich pubs, clubs, restaurants, work places and other closed establishments from 1st July when legislation comes into force across England. This is a big step in making our communities healthier and Ipswich Borough Council, like other local authorities, is continuing to advise and educate businesses, organisations and individuals of the benefits of a smoke-free environment.
