Out-going Mayor Henry Davies, now the Deputy Mayor, looks back over a busy year …
They say a week is a long time in politics but a year as Mayor is quickly over.
Pauline and I have had a wonderful year representing Ipswich and would like to thank you all for your many kindnesses and your support. We would also like to thank my stalwart deputy, Bill Wright, for stepping in during my recent illness. The Mayoralty is all about team work and we had a great team behind us.
There have been so many memorable moments during the past year that it would be unfair to single any out for special mention. But what both Pauline and I can say is that wherever we have been we have received a wonderful Ipswich welcome. We have met thousands of people during the past year and it is true what they say (and what we already knew) that Ipswich people are very special.
Of course, the killings in December cast a giant shadow over the whole town. It is only right that I refer to them here. Ipswich and the whole country were shocked by the tragedy. But Ipswich showed its reputation for fairness when the victims were mourned as loved members of the community and referred to as such.
My theme for the year was "Ipswich Together". It's that kind of place. So, thank you once again to one and all.
