Swimming ace Duncan Goodhew will be in Ipswich this weekend to take a look at the Everyday Swim project at Crown Pools.
Everyday Swim is a £3 million national programme, led by the Amateur Swimming Association and funded by Sport England, which aims to get more people into pools, for leisure, fitness and fun.
A special Suffolk Swim Weekend takes place on 9th and 10th June and the ASA is working with Ipswich Borough Council and other local councils to encourage people of all ages to spend more time in the pool. Saturday’s focus will be on children’s activities (1pm to 4pm), while Sunday (10am to 4pm) will see adult swimmers in action along with aqua classes and water polo.
There will still be lanes in the competition pool for normal public access.
Duncan Goodhew is the ASA’s Everyday Swim ambassador and he will be at Crown Pools on Sunday morning. He will also be visiting other pools in the county over the weekend.
Councillor Judy Terry, Ipswich Borough Council’s Arts, Culture & Leisure portfolio-holder, said: “This is a very important initiative and complements our own sport and fitness programmes. We look forward to welcoming Duncan to Crown Pools."
