treasures from the Round Pond in Christchurch Park
Ipswich Museum has been coining it ... with the latest batch of treasures from the Round Pond in Christchurch Park. The pond has been dredged to clean up decades of sludge and metal detecting fans have taken advantage and unearthed a number of items. Among them are some old coins, one of them a French coin dated 1656. Bob Entwistle, Senior Collections Care Officer for Colchester & Ipswich Museums service has been overseeing the restoration of the coins. "Most of the coins that have been found date from the 19th and 20th centuries but some are much older.” Other finds include medals, toys a necklace and an old army button.
