Fairtrade Art Competition 2007.

The new Mayor of Ipswich, Inga Lockington, will next Monday present certificates to pupils of three Ipswich primary schools who took part in the Fairtrade Art Competition 2007.

More than 90 pupils from Sidegate, St Helen’s and St Matthew’s primary schools responded to the call to submit a picture depicting what Fairtrade meant to them.

The work of the pupils is currently being shown in Gallery Three of the Town Hall Galleries. The winners of the competition along with all entrants will be presented with their certificates in Gallery Three between 1pm and 3.15pm.

Pupils from Sidegate School will be presented with their certificates from 1.15pm, St. Helen’s School from 2pm and St. Matthew’s School from 2.30pm.

This is the first time that the Making Ipswich a Fairtrade Town Steering Group has held such a competition and it is hoped to be repeated in future years.

Councillor Carole Jones, Chair of the Making Ipswich a Fairtrade Town Steering Group and group member Lizzie Coltham, who judged the entries, said: “The response has been terrific and the standard of the work very impressive.”
