Local Author, John Field, is to sign copies of his new book - a special collection of the work of Giles, the great cartoonist - at the Tourist Information Centre on Saturday 29th March from 11.00am - 1.00pm.
"Giles's London" is a collection of cartoons which are all set in London, clearly depicting famous landmarks in the capital. Mr Field, a lifelong Giles fan, has collated the collection and added notes about the landmarks, plus some historical notes and information about what was happening in the news at the time which may have inspired the cartoonist.
Giles, one of Britain's best loved cartoonists, had many local connections. He lived just outside Ipswich and worked from premises in the town centre. A statue, featuring his famous "Grandma" and other favourite characters, stands in Ipswich which was unveiled by Giles and his great friend Warren Mitchell, aka TV's Alf Garnett.
The book "Giles's London" is on sale at the TIC priced £10.99. John Field hopes this will be the first of many new collections – his ultimate aim, bearing in mind Giles local connections and the number of cartoons featuring local scenes, is to publish a collection of "Giles's Ipswich"
