The Ipswich Disability Sport Forum (IDSF) is holding a disability sport information and demonstration event at Ipswich Town Hall on Thursday 3rd April.
The aim of the event is to provide information on all local disability sporting opportunities which exist for disabled people living in and around Ipswich.
Anyone is welcome to come along to the event which will be taking place from 3pm to 6pm and will involve practical demonstrations of some disability sports for people to take part in. All local disability sports clubs and relevant sports organisations will have a presence at the event.
The event is being jointly organised with local disability charity Optua who run the Suffolk Disability Sport Academy Project. Ipswich Borough Councillor Judy Terry has also provided £1,000 to help fund the event in recognition of the good work of the IDSF.
Jon Garnham, from the Ipswich Disability Sport Forum, said:
"We hope this event will provide a great opportunity for any disabled people living in the Ipswich area to come along and find out about sports which they could take part in. There are a great range of disability sports taking place in this area so there's something for everyone. Even if you already take part in sport on a regular basis you might find something new which interests you at this event so why not come along and find out more!"
The event will also be useful for anyone wanting to find out about volunteering opportunities to get involved in sport locally. There are many volunteering opportunities to get involved with local disability sports clubs. There is a need not just for coaches but also for secretaries, treasurers, fundraisers and committee members.

Have a go at Goalball!
On the morning of the 3rd of April there is also a special 'Have a Go' event for anyone who would like to try out the disability sport of Goalball. This is taking place at Chantry Sports Centre in Ipswich from 11.30am to 2.00pm. Goalball is a game aimed at visually impaired people of all ages but anyone is welcome to come along and 'have a go'.
The cost to take part is £2 per person and the hope is that a regular club for adults and juniors can be set up that can compete both regionally and nationally.
