On Sunday 8th June hundreds of people will don their boots in aid of charity to join the Orwell Walk. This annual event, organised by The Rotary Club of Ipswich East, started out in 1976 and has grown in popularity ever since.
This year nearly 1,500 walkers are expected to choose from one of the three circular routes – 9½miles, nearly 22 miles or the full 25 miles. However, if you prefer to walk a shorter distance there will also be a special shuttle bus to ferry walkers back from five different stage posts.
The starting post, Gainsborough Sports Centre, will be open from 7am, and for the keen walkers who are aiming to do the full distance it is recommended that you get going as early as possible.
Wear stout walking shoes, pack your sandwiches and sun cream, and come and join in the fun. There is plenty to see and there are stage posts along the route so you can stop to refresh regularly.
Last year's walkers raised over £60,000 and organisers hope to raise even more this year.
