Ipswich Sports Services are working closely with 'Stepping Out in Suffolk', a countywide partnership of organisations from health, local government and voluntary groups. The aim is to encourage people to get out and walk to improve their overall health and well-being.

Walking is the perfect activity for health, and you don't have to spend hours - just 30 minutes a day of brisk walking will have positive health benefits. Plus it doesn't require equipment or expense, it's free!

Health walks are not "power walks".
You only need to walk as though you were slightly late for an appointment - fast enough to:

  • Get warm, but not sweaty;
  • Breathe a little faster, but still able to talk normally;
  • Feel as though you've had some exercise, but could still do a bit more.

A series of mapped walks have been developed through some of Ipswich's beautiful parkland. Further details on the Ipswich walks can be accessed through our sports pages.

If you prefer to join up with a group and walk with a trained leader there are many different organised walks happening all over the county that you can join.
