Play Safe! That's the message for Ipswich youngsters from Borough Council parks staff.

The Council is concerned that a few selfish people have dropped cans, bottles and discarded needles in some of the town's parks and play areas. These are removed by staff as soon as possible but the Council wants to minimise risks of an injury and advises parents and carers to be on the look-out for potential hazards.

In the meantime, parks staff are stepping up their patrols. A spokesman said: "A thoughtless minority leave cans and bottles, even needles, on occasions in our open spaces and we want our youngsters to be able to play safely. Anyone who sees a potential problem should ring the Council's Cleaner Ipswich Hotline on 01473 433000."
