The call has gone out today to young sportsmen and women: "Join Team Ipswich and be part of the action at the 2008 Redrow Suffolk Youth Games"
The annual event, the biggest youth multi-sport competition in the county, is being held in Ipswich on Sunday 6th July and team recruitment is now under way. Athletics is first, with a recruitment session at Northgate Sports Centre on Friday 25th April, 7pm to 8.30pm.
The seven districts of Suffolk will compete in a variety of sports: athletics, badminton, basketball, girls' cricket, girls' football, hockey, tag rugby, swimming, table tennis and tennis. The athletics competitions include events for young people with disabilities.
To represent Team Ipswich, young people must live or go to school in Ipswich and meet the eligibility criteria for their chosen sport. No previous experience is needed.
Medals are awarded to teams finishing first, second and third in each competition and the district with the greatest number of points accumulated across all sports will become champions. There is also a fair play award.
You can pick up a Team Ipswich recruitment leaflet from your nearest Ipswich Borough Council sports centre or by ringing Team Ipswich on 01473 433542.
If you belong to a club or an organisation that works regularly with young people and can help recruit potential participants to represent Team Ipswich in the 2008 Suffolk Youth Games, Team Ipswich would like to hear from you too.
