HRH the Duke of Gloucester will be visiting Ipswich next Monday to "re-open" Christchurch Park and to unveil a plaque at the new St Lawrence Centre.

Ipswich Borough Council invited the Duke to plant a tree to mark the completion of the £4.2 million Heritage Lottery-funded project that has transformed Christchurch Park, and to look around Ipswich's newest community venue in the town centre.

The royal visitor will also tour Christchurch Mansion and the Waterfront before going to Ipswich Hospital in the afternoon.

Councillor Judy Terry, Ipswich Borough Council's Arts, Culture & Leisure portfolio-holder, said: "I am delighted that his Royal Highness will be coming here. I expressed in my letter the hope that he would enjoy seeing the radical and welcome changes to Ipswich – on the Waterfront, in the park and in the town centre. This visit is a great honour for Ipswich."
