Motorists and other road-users are advised that major roadworks will begin around Ipswich Waterfront later this week. The works involve the construction of a toucan crossing in Fore Street for pedestrians and cyclists and is part of the University Campus Suffolk project.

Work will commence on Saturday 3rd May along Fore Street between Grimwade Street and the Back Hamlet /Duke Street roundabout and will last for some weeks, although much of the work will not affect the carriageway. Work will be suspended on Sunday 4th and Monday 5th May.

Two-way traffic will be maintained during the rush hours to keep disruption to a minimum.

A spokesman for Ipswich Borough Council apologised for delays while these safety works are under way and advised motorists to find alternative routes at busy times. Advisory signs will be put up in advance.
