Welcome to Ipswich

Ipswich is a regional centre and the county town of Suffolk. It is already one of the fastest growing urban centres in the UK. Its current population of around 128,000 is set to grow to around 150,000 within 15 years and as a regional city its immediate catchment area already has a population of around 310,000.

The Government has set challenging targets for Ipswich in regards to housing and population growth over the next decade. By 2021 around 30,000 new jobs will be created, confirming Ipswich's place as the fastest growing regional centre in the East.

If you are interested in setting up or relocating your business to the Ipswich area the Council works with a number of different agencies and organisations who can help you with this process. You can find further information on this in the Business Advice section.

In order to achieve these targets and to maximise opportunities for businesses, residents and visitors Ipswich promotes a number of strategic alliances. The main focus of these is on Regional Cities East (RCE) and the Haven Gateway Partnership (HGP). Both these alliances link areas that believe that collaboration not competition is the key to successful growth and development. Both partnerships benefit from strong government support and partner buy-in.

Ipswich is experiencing rapid and continued growth. Key regeneration areas include the Waterfront, Ipswich Village, Ipswich town centre, and the Education Quarter, which are transforming the town. Ipswich Borough Council is committed to providing the necessary infrastructure and working as a partner on specific development projects. As a regional centre for administration, financial services, hi-tech industries and a hub for transport and distribution, the area offers the perfect environment for businesses to develop and grow.

Ipswich Borough Council works hard to improve the attractiveness of the town and its amenities. Ipswich is a great place to live: provision for sport and the arts is first-rate while the recent creation of the Business Improvement District has attracted a growing number of visitors to the town centre.
