Ipswich is a regional centre, the county town of Suffolk and already one of the fastest growing urban centres in the UK. The Government has set Ipswich challenging targets in regards to housing and population growth. Over the next 15 years around 30,000 new jobs will be created, with the population set to grow to around 150,000 within the same period.
The aim is for Ipswich to further develop as a dynamic and prosperous regional centre and this is supported at both a central, regional and local government level. The economic development and planning policy teams work hard to enable developments in key areas of Ipswich. Many major sites are already under development, with more in the early preparation and planning stages, bringing much needed improvements in housing, education and retail, among others, to the area.
There are four key development quarters identified in central Ipswich. These are:
