Corporate Governance
Corporate Governance is the process by which local authorities direct and control their functions and relate to their communities. First introduced in the early 1990s into the private sector, it was then extended to the public services, now all local authorities are required to draw up a local Code of Corporate Governance.
The Code must cover five key elements:
- Community Focus
- Service Delivery Arrangements
- Structure and Processes
- Risk Management and Internal Control
- Standards of Conduct
