From 08 May 2008 the responsibility for considering complaints that a Member may have breached the Code of Conduct has moved from the Standards Board for England to the standards committees of local authorities.

The Members' Code of Conduct (Microsoft Word document: 64Kb) is available here. It forms part of the Council's constitution.

What this means to you

After 08 May 2008 if you want to complain about the conduct of a Member of Ipswich Borough Council you must submit your complaint to:

Chair of the Assessment Sub-Committee
The Standards Committee
c/o the Monitoring Officer
Ipswich Borough Council
Grafton House
15-17 Russell Road
Ipswich
IP1 2DE

The Assessment Sub-Committee can only deal with complaints about the behaviour of a Member. It will not deal with complaints about things that are not covered by the Members' Code of Conduct. If you make a complaint to the Assessment Sub-Committee it must be about why you think a Member has not followed the Code of Conduct.

For further information, to discuss these changes or to obtain a complaint form, contact the Council's Monitoring Officer, Claire Barritt, on 01473 432320 or email claire.barritt@ipswich.gov.uk.
