Gas Main Replacement & Street Scene Improvement Work

Ipswich Borough Council is delighted that the works in Upper Brook Street have been completed and thank all businesses in the area who have been affected by the works for their patience.
Although contractors have worked hard to minimise the disruption, the replacement of the gas main proved more difficult than originally expected and this prolonged the duration of the works. The £435,000 scheme has provided new pavements, kerbing, lighting, street furniture and a new road surface.
There is still some minor signing and lining works to complete and this will be undertaken on Sundays to avoid disrupting retail activity. In addition there is a street light to remove alongside the Gt White Horse which will be temporarily located in the east footway. It is intended to complete the paving of Northgate Street next year and as part of these works it is intended to replace all the existing columns in Nortgate St with columns that compliment the new columns recently installed in Upper Brook Street.
