After the Cremation:
Removal of remains from the Crematorium
Several options are available should the applicant wish to remove the cremated remains from the crematorium. It is possible for the Funeral Director to collect cremated remains direct from the Crematorium in order to make private arrangements for example, burial in a churchyard. Alternatively, the Applicant can collect the cremated remains from the Cemetery Office within seven days of the funeral (after this date fees will be incurred).
The cremated remains can be left on Temporary Deposit at the Crematorium for up to three months. This should give you time to explore all the options available without feeling rushed into making such an important decision. However, please be aware that a storage fee is charged for each month or part thereof.

Floral Tributes
Visitors are requested not to place floral tributes or memorabilia upon the lawns, in the Temple of Remembrance or Gardens of Remembrance.
Each Chapel has its own floral tribute area divided into the days of the week and a name card identifies the flowers for each Service. Due to the limited space available we would ask that only four tributes be placed on cremation plots.
Flowers will remain in place for one week following the Service, after which they will be removed from the Crematorium grounds by our staff. After removal flowers and cards cannot be retrieved. If they are required for any reason they should be removed from the tribute area by family or Funeral Director before the seventh day following the funeral.

Garden of Remembrance
The Garden of Remembrance is at the Millennium Cemetery, located at Tuddenham Road, approximately 2 minutes by car from the crematorium. These gardens came into use in September 1999 when this cemetery was officially opened.
The lawns are divided into the twelve months of the year and remains are scattered according to the month of the cremation, although an alternative month/lawn may be requested.
When remains are scattered an area of the turf is removed, the remains are scattered loosely and then the turf is replaced. If you wish to witness the scattering please advise your funeral director.
Prior to the opening of the Garden at the Millennium Cemetery the garden in front of the Temple of Remembrance was used from 1928 to 1975 and the garden behind the Temple from 1975 to 1999. Both of these gardens are now closed.

Cremation Plots
These are small private graves that are used for the interment of up to four sets of cremated remains. Plots are available upon request and your Funeral Director can advise you of their current location. All plots are leased for a period of 25 years, which is then renewable for further periods on request. Cremated remains must be interred in a casket made from biodegradable material, bearing details of the deceased. There are a number of reused plots within the New Cemetery, which can be purchased at a reduced cost for two sets of remains or memorial use only.

Existing Family Graves
Cremated remains can be interred in an existing family grave, even if it is full for the purpose of earthen burials. Where possible, remains can also be scattered within an existing grave. Proof of ownership of the burial rights will be required before an interment or scattering can take place.
