Ipswich Building Control's primary objective is to secure a safe and healthy built environment for the benefit of the community.
We have professionally qualified surveyors, as well as those undertaking qualifications, supported by experienced administration staff to provide information and advice on the Building Regulations and other Building Control functions.
The Building Regulations lay down standards of construction which are mainly concerned with protecting the health and safety of building users, conserving energy, and providing access and facilities for people with disabilities. Guidance on meeting the required standard can be found in the Approved Documents to the Building Regulations. These are available to download on the Planning Portal website (opens in a new window).
The Building Regulations are not to be confused with Town and Country Planning, which is designed to regulate the development and use of land. For more information on Planning visit the Development Control pages.
Building Control also has responsibility for: Dangerous Structures, Demolitions and Street Naming and Numbering. The team are also able to offer additional services, resource permitting.
Ipswich Borough Council is committed to providing an efficient Building Control service through its ISO 9000 Quality Assurance accreditation. The team provide an impartial and professional contribution to the design and inspection of building projects.
