 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Domestic Violence is a crime that can affect people from all social, economic and geographical backgrounds, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation.

In Suffolk:
  • 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence or abuse during their lifetime
  • On average 3 women a year will be murdered by partners/ex-partners
  • Children are present at nearly 90% of incidents

Domestic Violence can be physical, sexual, or emotional abuse and can include:

  • Actual or threat of physical harm
  • Deprivation of food, sleep or money
  • Use of weapons
  • Biting, pushing, punching, kicking
  • Isolation from family and friends
  • Humiliation or belittlement
  • Sexual threats or forced sex
  • Emotional blackmail
  • Using your children against you

Domestic Violence takes many forms and can happen repeatedly.

Working in partnership to prevent and reduce domestic violence

Ipswich Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership actively support the work of the Ipswich and Coastal Domestic Violence Forum (ICDVF) in tackling and reducing domestic violence across the Ipswich and Suffolk Coastal area.

The White Ribbon Campaign

Ipswich Borough Council have supported the White Ribbon Campaign this year. The White Ribbon Campaign aims to raise the awareness of domestic violence and abuse. Ipswich Borough Council supported this campaign by having front of house staff wearing the t-shirts and having the white ribbons available to staff and public. Ipswich Town Football Club also supported the campaign and took part in a photo shoot with Ipswich Womens Aid and Community Safety staff.
