Ipswich Borough Council currently accepts the following payment methods:
- Direct debit
- Debit or credit card in person, on the phone or on the Internet (see link below)
- Cheque in the post or at the Payments Area at the Town Hall
- Cash at the Town Hall
- Bank Standing Order
- At Post Offices by Transcash, but you must pay their fee
You can choose how often to pay:
- Once a year for the year ahead (usually in April)
- Twice a year in April and October
- 10 monthly payments, usually from April to January on the 1st of each month
- If you pay by direct debit, you can choose to pay 10 payments on the 1st, 8th, 15th or 22nd of the month or 12 payments on the 1st of the month.
We positively encourage you to pay by direct debit as it is the most economic and efficient way for you to pay and for us to collect. If you have a bank account and do not pay by direct debit, ask for a form today or see the link below to print one off.
Reductions in charge can be granted in certain circumstances:
- Council Tax benefit for those on a low income
- Single resident discount for those living alone or where all other residents are disregarded because of their status e.g. students, hospital patients, people who are severely mentally impaired
- Reduced charge or exemptions on some empty properties
- Disability Reduction Scheme - where a property is occupied by, and has certain features to cater for the needs of, a person with a disability
