Local Validation List
The Council has prepared a Local Validation List of documents required to accompany planning and related applications. This is has been issued for public consultation. Further information is available on the Local Validation Lists page.
New rules for paving gardens
From 1 October 2008 new rules will apply for householders who wish to pave their front gardens.
You will NOT need planning permission if a new driveway uses permeable (or porous) surfacing which allows water to drain through, such as gravel, permeable concrete block paving or porous asphalt, or if the rainwater is directed to a lawn or border to drain naturally. However, if the surface to be covered is more than 5sq.m, planning permission will be required for laying traditional, impermeable driveways that are not drained to an adequate soakaway or "rain garden." Planning permission is unlikely to be granted where runoff from paved areas is directly connected to the sewerage system as this will increase flooding and pollution.

The Council uses an online internet service to provide some basic planning information. This information will be gradually expanded. Our aim is to provide a top quality information and search facility to assist all users of the planning system, in line with the government's e-planning objectives.
Planning Portal [Guide | Plans | Study | Research | Apply ]
The Planning Portal aims to improve the planning system and to create a sustainable "value adding" portal business (that delivers services wanted and liked by customers, both public and private). You can also use this site to submit an electronic application to us. The Planning Portal also contains general information about the national planning system.
Application Forms
The Government launched standardised planning application forms called the 1APP on 1 April 2008. These forms replace all previous planning application forms (except minerals). You can complete an application form online via The Planning Portal (opens in a new window) or alternatively you can print and return one of the forms below.
Paper copies are available from the one-ipswich Customer Services Centre at the Town Hall in Ipswich.
