The Development Control team deals with the Council's regulatory and Development Control functions. It includes the combined services of Planning & Development, Conservation and Land Charges. The team provide front line high profile services direct to developers and members of the public.

As a team we are committed to providing the best possible service. We aim to follow best practice and achieve quality in all that we do.

Our service objectives are:

  • to secure the best quality development possible for the people of Ipswich;
  • to operate an efficient, thorough, responsive and open planning & development and enforcement system, focused on the needs of all of our customers;
  • to play our part in promoting a wider understanding, among the public and other bodies, of the work and commitment of Development Control and the Council as a whole, within existing constraints.

We are committed to providing a top quality public service, taking on board all acknowledged principles of Best Practice and Best Value. In particular we aim to:

  • Secure continuous improvement;
  • Provide good customer care;
  • Achieve fairness and transparency in decision making;
  • Promote public respect and understanding for the service, the Council, Ipswich and local government as a whole.

The operation of the section is based upon principles of mutual respect and teamwork, and the Council's Dignity at Work and Equal Opportunities policies. We aim to carry that approach across all of our dealings with the public.
