The Service covers a range of issues within residential or commercial premises which all have the overall aim of improving and protecting people and their environment from "nuisances" and other public health problems as follows:
Out of Hours Noise Control Service - This Service operates at designated times which are outside normal office hours with the aim of reducing noise nuisance within the Town. The Service responds to requests from those with "open" complaints (ie. where a warning letter has been sent).
- Public Health - Accumulations of rubbish in gardens, access ways, yards, etc. The piles of rubbish may contain material that could attract flies or vermin, dangerous substances or may also be causing obnoxious smells. We also deal with filthy and verminous premises under the 1936 Public Health Act.
- Dust, odour, smoke - we also deal with other matters which might be a nuisance (these are defined in law)
- Pest control - The aim of the Pest Control Service is to improve the quality of life for people in Ipswich and prevent the transmission of diseases by controlling the numbers of rats, mice and some insect pests. There are varying charges for the treatment of rats, mice and other pests such as wasps and fleas (charges are reduced for those in receipt of means tested benefits).
- We provide advice to other Council services concerning the potential Environmental impact of applications for Planning Consent and Public Entertainment Licenses - More information on this service will be available shortly
