THE HOUSING REGISTER

Join the Housing Register if you want to be considered for a secure Council tenancy or get the Council's help to find a Housing Association tenancy.

HOW TO JOIN

You will need to complete an application form and return it to Housing Needs and Resources at the address at the bottom of this page.

If you need help in filling in the form, please see a Customer Services Advisor at the Customer Services Centre in the Town Hall

HOW IT WORKS

Priority for housing takes into account housing need as set out in the council's housing allocation policy. The rules are detailed, ask for a copy of the policy for more information from the Housing Policy and Resources Section, contact information at the bottom of this page.

HOW LONG TO WAIT?

We cannot say how long someone will wait for housing as so many factors outside our control affect the answer. We will give you as much information as we can to help you make your own estimate, and do our best to keep the time to a minimum.

You should note that some people, mainly those who can meet their own housing needs, or who have broken conditions of another tenancy may not be offered housing by the council.

REVIEW OF CIRCUMSTANCES

Before any offer is made you will be contacted for your circumstances to be reassessed. This is sometimes called a "Pre-Allocation Assessment". Being contacted in this way does not necessarily mean that you will shortly receive an offer. The main purpose of the assessment is to see if your circumstances have changed and that your needs assessment is correct.

CHANGE OF CIRCUMSTANCES

ALWAYS advise the Council of ANY changes in your circumstances. This will ensure that your points assessment remains accurate.
