Recycling

The aim of the Service Area is to increase recycling rates in Ipswich Borough.

Ipswich Composting Scheme truck

In October 2006, Ipswich residents achieved a recycling rate of 47.42%; this consisted of 21.48% household waste recycled through the blue bin and 25.94% of household waste composted through the brown (garden waste) bins.

There are currently 80 recycling sites throughout the town, enabling most residents to recycle even without the use of a car.

We have a number of recycling sites at schools to encourage recycling and environmental awareness amongst the young.

Despite all our efforts, there is still a long way to go. During October 2006 over 2,500 tonnes of Ipswich Borough's domestic waste was landfilled. We are committed to reducing this figure and hope that these pages will give you ideas on how you too can 'do your bit'.

"Lets make recycling a way of life in Ipswich. It only takes a little thought and effort to separate your waste and Ipswich Borough Council has made it easy for you. We have recycling centres across town, at schools, shopping parades, supermarkets, and even pubs for you to use.

"Recycling protects our environment, is great fun, and could also raise money for your school or club if you set up a community recycling centre.

"Think Globally, Act Locally. You know it makes sense."
