Small Grants

Ipswich Borough Council has a small pot of money available each year to help voluntary organisations in Ipswich. This funding is in addition to regular funding of organisations whose services match or supplement the Council's own objectives.

All applications received are considered by a Grants Panel made up of Councillors. The panel decides which organisation receives a grant and how much according to agreed criteria and how closely services meet the objectives described in 'Transforming Ipswich'.

Applications for Grant Aid will be considered only from voluntary or community organisations which:

  • Provide a service for the benefit of Ipswich people
  • Are a registered charity or have an agreed constitution
  • Are financially viable (audited or independently examined accounts must be provided with the application form)
  • Have, or are intending to introduce, equal opportunities policies for employees and volunteers, i.e. health and safety, racial, sexual and disability discrimination
  • Provide services which accord with the Council's own service priorities.

The Council will give preference to organisations which can demonstrate:

  • How their services support and/or complement the Council's main priorities for the forthcoming financial year.
  • How their services have met/will meet identified needs and
  • That other sources of funding have been sought in the case of new projects, evidence of need of the services to be funded.

Generally, grant aid will not be given to more than one organisation providing the same service.

Recommendations are submitted to full Council in March and applicants are notified in writing shortly after.

Applications will be considered for core funding of services or for specific projects and must be accompanied by audited accounts.
