1. The verge has been cut outside my house. Why don't you collect up the cuttings?
Because this is the most economically advantageous option for the town. Under normal conditions the cut grass will dry off, "bio-degrade" and return nitrogen to benefit the existing sward. If we collected up arisings, the costs, time taken, resource requirements, and not allowing for disposal arrangements, would be about 3 times more than at present.
As with all our operations, if there is a specific problem at a location please let us know, so we can try to improve the service. Our aim is to keep the town looking good.
2. When are you going to do...?
All scheduled work, such as unlocking gates, grass cutting, litter picking, toilet cleaning, hedge cutting, shrub maintenance, floral bedding schemes, weed control, play area inspections etc is managed by means of computer based work schedules. Some tasks such as gate unlocking are very specific and time based.
On more progressive works like grass cutting large areas and hedge cutting we project the start date that the cutting cycle begins. Progress with the cutting cycle depends for example on growing conditions, mechanical breakdowns and other factors. Our primary aim is to keep the town looking good, and we're adjusting staffing and other resources on a daily basis to help achieve this.
Sometimes we work in situations involving the elderly. Our operatives who are involved in tasks for elderly clients are encouraged to reassure them and develop a rapport as the years work progresses.
