The primary function of the Highways Division is to carry out frontline services to maintain and renew the carriageways and footways in Ipswich.

The service provided includes:

  • Provision of Emergency Response Service.

  • Footway and Carriageway Defects Repairs.

  • Footway and Carriageway Reconstruction Work.

  • Road Lines and Signs.

  • Construction of Highways Drainage.

  • Signal Improvements Works.

  • Major Capital and Revenue Highways Schemes.

  • Construction of Minor Traffic and Highway Safety Schemes.


Interesting Facts

Over the years the Highways division has been responsible for constructing most of the prestigious paving schemes carried out in Ipswich.

Examples of these include:

The town centre paving from Westgate Street through to Carr Street, St Peters Street, St Nicholas Street, Wolsey Street, Cutler Street, Stoke Quay, the Waterfront from the Old Customs House to Coprolite Street and Fore Street.
