Street Cleansing is responsible for:

Road sweeping and washing, removal of street litter, chewing gum, dog mess, dead animals, litter bin emptying, gully emptying, graffiti and flyposter removal, flytipping collection, street furniture cleaning, clearing up after spillages and road traffic accidents.

Interesting Facts

  • Did you know it’s a criminal offence to drop litter? (over 75 fixed penalties have been issued in last 6 months) 
  • You can be fined for throwing litter from a car
  • We empty 400 litter bins at least 6 times a week
  • Chewing gum removal in the town centre costs approximately £17,000 per annum (chewing gum is litter!)
  • If you fail to clear-up after your dog you could be fined £50
  • Did you know the maximum fine for littering is now £2,500!
  • We follow-up all evidence found in dumped sacks and prosecute
