The £3.3 million programme aimed at making Ipswich Safer and Cleaner will continue for the next 12 months, but the Liveability Team has concluded its' part of the project.

The Liveability fund money was given to the Council by the Government. The Council had asked you what you wanted it spent on. Some of the schemes have been done, quite a few are in progress and others will be rolled out throughout 2006-2007.

Some of the money was used for Council priorities such as rolling out the "Making A Difference" initiative. The Making a Difference team had been in all the wards in Ipswich to clean up the streets and open spaces. This was done in the first year of Liveability.

Another initiative was the introduction of Litter Enforcement Officers giving out on-the-spot fines to hit litter louts where it hurts - in their pockets.

Some of the ideas have been fed through to the Area Forums who have played a key role in the consultation exercise. In previous surveys and consultations, residents told the Council they supported investment in the twin priorities of a Cleaner and a Safer Ipswich. They suggested projects ranging from a park bench to a play centre.

The Liveability Project has now come to an end but in the last year, the team looked into encouraging local communities to help sustain the improvements made and if they had an area they wanted cleaned up in the community, we helped.

The team would like to take this opportunity to thank all the partnerships and those people that participated and have worked with on the schemes, we look forward to seeing many of the sixty or so small projects that will be completed in the following year 2006-07 and watching many of the schemes that have been completed, flourish. A full list of these can be found on this page.
