Basketball is one of the most exciting team sports to play and to watch and is accessible to all.

outdoor basketball initiative
The English Basketball Association's visionary Outdoor Basketball Initiative (OBI), funded by Sport England Lottery
Fund, is an innovative scheme designed to bring basketball 'Right Up Your Street'. There are 28 Outdoor Basketball Initiative posts in Ipswich.

Ipswich Community Basketball Project offers a wide range of exciting courses during school holidays.

Whether you are just starting out in the sport or you are one of the County’s elite players we are able to provide you with an opportunity to develop your skills in a fun environment.
 
The courses are lead by qualified coaches experienced at working with players of all levels from beginners to internationals and if basketball is your game then the Community Basketball Project will have something for you. Lots of these are casual sessions so all you need to do is turn up on the day, pay and play!

Ipswich Basketball club (the Tomcats and Bobcats) provides opportunities for adults and children of various ages, and competes at a number of levels in the national league. cricket
There are many opportunities to play cricket with a varied and progressive programme suitable for all abilities.


rascals ... promotes the development of running, jumping and throwing skills. They focus on agility, balance, co-ordination and speed, through a variety of fun-based activities using such equipment as reactor balls, balance boards, ladders, bean bags, skipping ropes, bats, balls and more!

beginners ... assists young players to develop their batting, bowling and fielding skills. Exercises, drills and games will enable these players to develop confidence and understanding.

improvers ... develops competence with hardball cricket. Focusing on
specific skills, these sessions will be appropriate for players aspiring to improve their contributions at school, club or county levels.

This programme usually takes place during the school holidays at Ipswich School, Henley Road, Ipswich

The sessions are very popular, and we definitely recommend that you book. You can book up to 7 days in advance with an i-card, either on-line, via telephone or in person at the centres.

Ipswich has thriving local leagues at senior and junior level. Ipswich Borough Council either owns or runs 32 outdoor football pitches. Tel 01473 432434 to hire.
As well as each centre having multi-use sports areas, we also have fantastic new state of the art artificial turf pitches at Whitton and Gainsborough. Call the relevant centre for more information on how your club or group can make use of these superb facilities.

IPSWICH RUGBY CLUB is one of the oldest clubs in the country. Founded in 1870 it boasts 4 senior sides and a thriving youth section. It’s women’s team, the Scorpions, is also successful. The club welcomes any players male or female, young or old.
