Walking for Health Initiative

Sports Services are working closely with 'Stepping Out in Suffolk', a countywide partnership of organisations from health, local government and voluntary groups. The aim is to encourage people to walk to improve their overall health and well being.

Walking is the perfect activity for health, you don't have to spend hours - just 30 minutes a day of brisk walking will have positive health benefits. It doesn't require equipment or expense, it's free!

Health walks are not "power walks". You just need to walk as though you were slightly late for an appointment - fast enough to:
~ Get warm, but not sweaty
~ Breathe a little faster, but still able to talk normally
~ Feel as though you've had some exercise, but could still do a bit more.

A series of mapped walks have been developed through some of Ipswich's beautiful parkland. Just click on the links on the left for details and directions for each of the parks listed.

If you would prefer to join up with a group and walk with a trained leader, call 01473 329554 or 01473 433050, Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm.

If you suffer with coronary heart disease, or are caring for someone who does, try the Heartbeat website at http://www.heartbeat.eastsuffolk.btinternet.co.uk
