About us

Ipswich Borough Council policy is made by the Politicians, led by Council Leader Councillor Elizabeth Harsant. That policy is then enacted by council staff. The council staff is led by the Chief Executive and Directors Team, supported by nine Heads of Service.

Ipswich Borough Council has a joint administration made up by Conservative and Liberal Democrat members. The Leader and Cabinet together are the Executive, comprising the Leader, Deputy Leader and seven councillors.

Service delivery in Ipswich is shared between Ipswich Borough Council and Suffolk County Council.

The Borough Council is responsible for services such as benefits, environmental health, leisure, planning, recycling, refuse collection and street cleaning. The County Council provides services such adult social care, education, libraries and waste disposal.
