North West Area Committee
What's on in North West
With Councillor Albert Grant, Chair
The new Chairman of the North West Area Committee is Councillor Albert Grant (Whitehouse Ward).
The North West Area Committee has developed an delivery plan as a guide for priorities in the North West area. The plan is updated at various intervals throughout the year and also contains information of activities and funding requests.
North West Area Update
The North West Area Committee has been allocated a budget and is currently looking at three projects. One is a Community Activity Project looking at providing a new play facility. This is at a very early stage in its development. Other projects involve developing new activities for people in the local area and helping to prevent people falling in to debt.
Loan Shark Awareness
The launch of a loan shark awareness week took place at the Castle Hill Community Centre to highlight the way Loan Sharks operate and learn some of the ways of recognising behaviours and encouraging people to report them.
The North West area Committee put £750 towards the week as this is a priority in their action 'Help prevent people from falling in to debt'.
If you think you have been subject to a loan shark or have some information about one, please contact Trading Standards Report a Loan Shark: Call 0300 555 2222, Text 'loan shark + your message' to 60003, or E-mail email@example.com
Castle Hill Community Centre
The Castle Hill Community Centre runs a Pop Up Café. It is open on Thursdays from 10.30am to 12.30pm. The idea came from some residents looking for somewhere to meet locally over a cuppa.
The Centre is for community use and has set up many interest groups including a popular Knit & Natter group.
Walking football six week taster session took place at Whitton Sports Centre. Walking Football was an idea brought forward by Suffolk FA joint partnership working with NW Area Committees.
Cllr Robin Vickery led on the project with the support of Debbie Owen the Community Engagement Officer and Laura Worsley from Suffolk FA.
It was run Friday afternoons for an hour at Whitton Sports Centre. 16 individuals came along across the whole 6 weeks. The rules are the same as football but no running.
Eighteen residents from Mayo Court, Stratford Court and Castle Court were taken to Mecca bingo in Ipswich. It had been hailed as a successful community event where good relationships between the residents, the Police and the Council had been forged. This was a partnership project involving the Police and Ipswich Borough Council.
